I have a friend

This morning I was having a bit of a pity party, complaining to the Captain about how I have no friends, blah blah I'm lonely blah blah blah. This afternoon, as the spring sun lit up the house and my spirits, I realised how wrong I was to say that. I have a friend, a very good friend.

This friend is reliable and is always there for me. Maybe a little bit loud at times, but not as noisy as some. This friend picks up for me, helping around the house, and that's something you can't say about many friends. No matter what's going on, or how long it's been since we were last together, I can turn to this friend for what I need.

My friend's name is Dyson. I love my friend.

I've tried to have a relationship with our Dyson, but it's all talk, talk talk and never listens to what's going on in my life.

I don't know. perhaps I'm expecting too much.

This is my Dyson!
There are many like it, but this one is mine!

My Dyson and I must suck true!
We must suck better than other Dysons who are trying to outsuck us!

I really want another one -- one for each floor of the house. And if you saw how the kitchen looks after K has had breakfast, you'd understand why I need one on the first floor full time. Argh. But thank you for recommending it -- you did not steer me wrong!

So these are worth the cost, are they? It's tempting, but I am concerned about the unhealthy relationships you are all forming with Dysons.

sjb raved about hers, and I said, "but they're all great AT FIRST," and she said "the Dyson is still great," and it's absolutely true. I've had it two years, maybe, and it's still wonderful. Yes, a vacuum cleaner that actually sucks stuff off the floor is an amazing thing.

The other thing that's great is all the places it comes apart, and how easily it comes apart. So when I suck up a pencil, a bathrobe tie, or any other object I used to have to cut/duct tape my old vacuum cleaner to remove, I can just pop something open and retrieve it.

The only thing I don't like about it is the attachments. The thing that you stick them to is really long, and I want them closer to my hand. Maybe different Dysons are configured differently, but I actually find it quite irritating to have to stand four feet away from a table or couch to vacuum it.

Maggie, you should go for the new "Ball" model http://www.dyson.com/usa/dysonball.asp . I'd love the DC24 for the kitchen; 11.65lbs, one third the size of a regular Dyson and with a collapsible handle. I definitely understand the post-breakfast disaster zone!

No Dyson here. We are in love with our Roomba though. Vacuuming what's that? We do have to haul out the old cannister for some rooms though (rugs with fringe are a problem).
